M. R. Carey, born Mike Carey in 1959, is a British writer whose work spans novels, comics, film, and television. Under the name Mike Carey, he made a name for himself in the comics world with runs on Hellblazer, Lucifer, The Unwritten, and X-Men. He later turned more fully to prose fiction, publishing the Felix Castor urban-fantasy series and other genre works.

Carey achieved broad recognition with The Girl with All the Gifts (2014), a post-apocalyptic thriller that blends horror, science fiction, and human drama. Across his career, Carey has continually navigated the boundaries between genre fiction and deeper thematic concerns—mortality, identity, and transformation—making him a distinctive voice in contemporary speculative literature.
